Well last week was a productive one in terms of writing. I should send the GUI Builders chapter off to technical editing later tonight. All that is left is a few pages on the builders in Spring Rich. They provide a good example of just how far you can go with reusable layout and model driven forms. The chapter should clock in at 25 or so pages in Word format.
Stuart was nice enough to get the Layout Manager chapter back to me over the weekend. After a few changes it will go off to copy editing this week as well.
This week I'll start on the Look and Feel chapter. It has been a few months since I've had to wrap my head around UI delegates and look and feel classes. It should be a welcome change from layouts.

Worries about "rich web applications"
I've been readinlg a lot of articles about "rich web applications"recently. (for example, here ). I can't help worrying that knee-jerk adoption of such things could greatly reduce the usability of the web, though.
FormLayout and GridBagLayout
I recently joined a project that has switched from GridBagLayout to JGoodies'FormLayout as a standard.? I'm happy about about this decision, because I have been using FormLayout for over a year.? However, one of my fellow developers is very skeptical of FormLayout, believing that GridBagLayout can do anything we need to get done.?
WinLAF 0.5 Released
WinLAF 0.5 has been released. WinLAF 0.5 contains new fixes for 15 inconsistencies in the Java Windows Look &Feel, and a further 24 inconsistencies fixed in previous WinLAF releases. It also contains a number of bugfixes for new issues introduced by WinLAF 0.4.
